MCDB 153 is a type of MCDB medium designed for the growth of human keratinocytes, cloning growth of chick embryo fibroblasts, and growth of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells. The medium contains trace elements, putrescine, adenine, thymidine, and higher levels of certain amino acids and vitamins. It is typically used in combination with EGF, hydrocortisone, glutamine, and low-concentration serum, with the serum concentration depending on the cell type. Each MCDB medium is formulated for specific cell types. MCDB 153 contains trace elements, glutamine, and 28mM HEPES buffer and has been used as a component of melanoma isolation medium (MIM) for the culture of human non-metastatic and metastatic melanoma cells.
