DMEM/F-12 is a 1:1 mixture of DMEM and Ham's F-12, combining the high concentration of glucose, amino acids, and vitamins from DMEM with the components of F-12. It supports the growth of various mammalian cells, including MDCK, glioblastoma cells, fibroblasts, human endothelial cells, and rat fibroblasts. It contains glutamine, no phenol red, and no proteins, lipids, or growth factors. It typically requires the addition of 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) for use. Versions with phenol red are also available.
