DMEM/F-12 is a 1:1 mixture of DMEM and Ham's F-12, combining the high concentration of glucose, amino acids, and vitamins from DMEM with the components of F-12. It is a widely used basic medium that supports the growth of various mammalian cells, including MDCK, glioblastoma cells, fibroblasts, human endothelial cells, and rat fibroblasts. It contains no proteins, lipids, or growth factors, and typically requires the addition of 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) for use. A phenol red-free version is also available.
