Sodium Pyruvate is a salt of the conjugate anion form of pyruvic acid. It is commonly used as an additional carbon source of energy added to cell culture media. It plays a role of carbon substitute in culture medium and participates in cell nutrition metabolism. Sodium Pyruvate also has antioxidant properties and may protect against hydrogen peroxide.
