Hygromycin B from Streptomyces hygroscopicus is an aminocyclitol antibiotic. It inhibits protein synthesis with the potency to inhibit translation. The antimicrobial spectrum of Hygromycin B includes bacteria and fungi. It can be used for the selection of cells transfected with hygromycin resistance gene.
