Ham's Nutrient Mixtures were originally designed as a serum-free formula for the clonal growth of CHO cells. Coon's Modified Ham's F-12 was designed to culture hybrid cells produced by viral fusion. The modification mainly includes altering salt concentration, adding ascorbic acid, and doubling amino acids and pyruvate.
