MEM - Minimum Essential Medium
Minimum essential medium (MEM) is a widely used multifunctional cell culture medium commonly used for the growth of a variety of mammalian cells in the laboratory, including primary, immortalized, and tumor cell lines.
Creative Bioarray's MEM is a highly versatile medium that can be modified to suit the specific needs of different types of cells. For example, different types of MEM contain different concentrations of amino acids, vitamins, and other nutrients to optimize the growth of different types of cells. It also contains glucose and bicarbonate to provide energy to the cells and regulate the pH of the medium. Our MEM is compatible with both serum-supplemented and serum-free conditions, making it a popular choice for many different types of cell culture applications.
Our MEMs have many applications in various areas of biomedical research, including
- Cell culture: Our MEM is widely used in the laboratory for the culture of a variety of mammalian cells, including primary cells, immortalized cells, and tumor cell lines. It can support the growth of a wide range of cell types, including fibroblasts, epithelial cells, and lymphocytes.
- Viral propagation: Our MEM can be used for the propagation of viruses that require host cells for replication, such as adenovirus and herpes virus. Our MEMs can support the growth of a range of viruses by providing a suitable environment for host cells.
- Transfection: Our MEM can be used as a transfection medium for the introduction of foreign genes into cells. It provides a nutritious and supportive environment for the cells to recover and express the introduced genes.
- Hybridoma production: Our MEM can be used to culture hybridoma cells for the production of monoclonal antibodies. By providing a suitable environment for the growth and division of hybridoma cells, MEM can support the production of large quantities of monoclonal antibodies.
- Stem cell culture: Our MEM can be used to culture embryonic stem cells and other types of stem cells, providing a supportive environment for their growth and differentiation.
