Description

SSEA-3 (stage-specific embryonic antigen 3) is a cell surface antigen, expressed along with SSEA-4, TRA-1-60 and TRA-1-81 in embryonic stem cells, embryonal carcinoma cells, and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS). SSEA-3 expression on human PS cells is down-regulated upon differentiation. In mouse, SSEA-3 is expressed on unfertilized eggs and preimplantation to early cleaved embryos, and no immunoreactivity is evident in undifferentiated murine EC, ES, and EG cells. SSEA-3 antibody can be used to characterize human ES cells and monitor their differentiation.
