Description

Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF) is a multifunctional growth factor which regulates both cell growth and cell motility. It exerts a strong mitogenic effect on hepatocytes and primary epithelial cells. HGF synergizes with Interleukin-3 and GM-CSF to stimulate colony formation of hematopoietic progenitor cells in vitro and may, therefore, also modulate hematopoiesis.

Biological Activity

Measured by its ability to induce IL-11 secretion by Saos‑2 human osteosarcoma cells. Hjertner, O. et al. (1999) Blood 94:3883. The ED50 for this effect is equal or less than 4.00 ng/mL.The specific activity of recombinant human HGF is >1.0 x 106 IU/mg, which is calibrated against the human HGF WHO International Standard (NIBSC code: 96/564).
