Description
The mitochondrion is the energy-producing structure in the cell and the main place for the cell to perform aerobic respiration. The main function of mitochondria is to produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate). Mitochondria are involved in the regulation of cell death pathways. This regulation is related to the conversion of membrane permeability. Once the mitochondrial membrane permeability transition occurs, the cell will die due to apoptosis or necrosis. TMRE is a mitochondrial-specific cationic dye with red-orange fluorescence. It has membrane permeability and quickly accumulates in the negatively charged mitochondrial membrane. The mitochondrial membrane potential can be quantitatively evaluated by detecting the intensity of the fluorescence value of TMRE.
