L-Thyroxine, also known as Levothyroxine, is a manufactured form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4). L-Thyroxine and triiodo-L-thyronine (T3), produced from thyroglobulin in the thyroid follicular cells, are iodine-containing hormones which can stimulate metabolic rate and regulate growth and development. L-Thyroxine can be used in cell culture applications to investigate its role.
