Leukemia Inhibitory Factor (LIF), expressed in HEK 293 cells, is a secreted pleiotropic glycoprotein belonging to the gp130 signaling of interleukin-6 (IL-6) family cytokines. LIF is usually used in the maintenance of mouse embryonic stem cells since it can maintain the stem cells in an undifferentiated state while retaining their proliferative potential or pluripotency. LIF is often added to culture media as an alternative in stem cell culture to reduce spontaneous differentiation. |
