Antibiotic Antimycotic Solution (100×)

Antibiotic Antimycotic Solution (100×) contains 10,000 units of Penicillin, 10 mg of Streptomycin, and 25 μg of Amphotericin B per ml. This solution is effective against the most common forms of cell culture contamination, including Gram-negative bacteria, Gram-positive bacteria, fungi and yeasts. It has been widely used as a supplement in cell culture media.

Penicilin, derived from Penicillium fungi, can interfere with the bacterial cell-wall synthesis.

Streptomycin, produced by Streptomyces, can inhibit prokaryote protein synthesis by binding to the bacterial ribosome and inhibit complex of protein synthesis.

Amphotericin B, a polyene antifungal antibiotic extracted from Streptomyces, can interfere with the permeability of cell membranes of fungi and yeast by forming a channels in the membrane and causing leakage of small molecules from the cells.
