Description
Ham's Nutrient Mixtures were originally designed as a serum-free formula for the clonal growth of CHO cells. Kaighn's modified Ham's F-12 is designed to support the growth of primary human liver cells,and differentiated rat and chicken cells. The modification mainly includes modifing salts and increasing concentration of amino acids and pyruvate.
L-Glutamine is an essential amino acid for cell growth, which can be used as the energy source of cultured cells and participate in protein synthesis and nucleic acid metabolism.
Sodium pyruvate plays a role of carbon substitute in culture medium and participates in cell nutrition metabolism.
